Geographic Financial Diversification
Introduction to Phu Quoc Island, Viet Nam
There is a financial benefit in being diversified geographically with your investments. This is a theme being discussed more now in the USA than in the past. It has always been a topic in other countries around the world. A second “country” home gives you currency protection against a falling USD. The choices here are uncomfortable as it is away from G-7 countries.

Viet Nam fits this definition. Viet Nam is a young, dynamic, and rapidly developing country. Still many people, 55 and older have no idea what Viet Nam is like today. It is no longer the war images that still are burned in many minds of a generation. I “normally” live in Viet Nam a majority of each year. The pandemic has changed that temporally. I am eager to return. I am a founder and  85% owner of a Vietnamese Consulting & Investment Company. It is real estate licensed and can accept Foreign Direct Investments for activities in Vietnam.

Below I am sharing some not so random thoughts on SE Asian travel or business while basing  out of Phu Quoc Island. It’s not perfect, but for me it is clean air, an International destination with inflows of capital and development and central to all of SE Asia. Consider this my being a good will ambassador for Vietnam. In any event, it is an exciting and dynamic growth country. I am excited to share what I have experienced living in Viet Nam over the past 13 years. Yes, I am a Viet Nam War Vet. Except for the covid period, I am happy to call Vietnam home. Normally I live in Hanoi. I love Hanoi. It is a unique city among the major cities of the world. I am however, strongly considering basing my business out of Phu Quoc Island upon my return.

The island of Phú Quốc experiences a typical sub-equatorial climate that is heavily influenced by the monsoon season. The weather experienced here is divided into two main seasons – the dry season and the rainy monsoon season. The weather is also characteristic of a moderately steady temperature recording across the year, with very minimal differences from season to season.

The average temperature in Phú Quốc during the day ranges between 29.2°C (84.6°F) and 32.3°C (90.1°F) across all the seasons, and at night it drops to read on average between 22.5°C (72.5°F) and 25.6°C (78.1°F) throughout the year. There rarely are extremes in the temperature recordings, and even on the hottest days, ample rainfall and the breezes help to keep it tolerable.
Sunshine is moderate throughout the year in Phú Quốc. During the monsoon season, the island receives an average of four and a half sunshine hours per day despite the heavy rains. The dry season receives slightly more sunshine hours, averaging eight per day. Generally, Phú Quốc’s days remain warm and pleasant in both seasons.

The rainy season is long, lasting from mid-April through mid-November, and during this period, Phú Quốc receives a whopping 2,684mm (26.9”) of precipitation on average, divided into approximately 335.5mm (13.2”) per month. August is the rainiest month as it accumulates 546mm (21.5”) in precipitation alone. The average rainfall days during this season are approximate fifteen per month, but August, on its own, has twenty-four and a half rainfall days! Expect cases of floods and thunderstorms mainly in the lowly regions of Phú Quốc.
The dry season is only mildly rainy, with its average rainfall days at only six per month, and the precipitation averages only 44mm (1.7”) per month.

The peak of the travel season to Phú Quốc is between December and February. This period not only features warm and pleasant weather, but it also features moderately drier days without much interruption while touring the city. The period falls right after the heavy rains of the monsoon season have cleared out, and the environment is lush, green, and scenic. Sourced from Weather Atlas

Resource: How to transit & where to stay on Phu Quoc Island

Vietnam is still closed to commercial travel.

Certainly, one must experience a new environment prior to investing in that place. We share this as an introduction to a new thought concept. Unless you have recently been to Viet Nam, I am highly confident you do not have an accurate concept of what has transpired in Vietnam in the last decade. Travel and enjoy. You may not invest but you’ll likely have a great experience.

I highly recommend Sisters Tours Vietnam if you wish to use a travel company. Though I am listed on their web site, I have no financial interest or responsibilities at the company. The owner is as a sister to me and I know the people and operations well. They are wonderful travel hosts and very establish inside the region.

Best to you and family
